CONCORD, N.H. - New Hampshire has been awarded nearly $26 million in federal grant money to help low-income families stay warm heading into the long winter months.

Rep. Carol Shea-Porter announced Friday the grant was awarded for October, November and December through the Department of Health and Human Services.

She said no one should have to choose between heating his or her home and putting food on the table. She said the funds are essential for the health and safety of families during the cold New Hampshire winters.

The New Hampshire Democrat said Congress should fully fund the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program to its authorized level of $5.1 billion next year.
